Asthma Alert Schools

In an initiative to empower teachers and school authorities to handle asthma emergencies in schools, Breathefree launched a campaign called ‘Asthma Alert Schools’ in Kolkata on 17th September 2010. It is the first ever initiative in India through which teachers will be trained to administer first-aid medication during an asthma attack and guided to identify symptoms of asthma in a child and to effectively communicate it to the parent.

Dr. Subhasis Roy, Consultant Pediatrician, Columbia Asia Hospital & Sishu Sanjeevan Hospital, Salt Lake and Dr. Pallab Chatterjee, Consultant Pediatrician, Columbia Asia Hospital & AMRI Hospital, Salt Lake, addressed the press on the need to make ‘Asthma Alert Schools’ a reality in India.

We would like to thank Mrs. M. Norman, Hon’able Principal – Assembly of God Church, Tollygunge and Mrs. Leena Harathi, Hon’able Principal, Andhra Association School who came forward to address the press and also for sharing their views on how the initiative will benefit the school staff to manage children with asthma during an emergency.

The workshop received an overwhelming response with the participation of 185 teachers from over 40 schools. The first workshop of the ‘Asthma Alert Schools’ Campaign was a great forum for teachers to understand about asthma from the doctors.

We would like to thank the publications and TV channels of Kolkata by supporting this initiative to reach out to many schools across Kolkata.

If you would like your school to be one of the ‘Asthma Alert Schools’, you could send us a request @
