Breathefree Yatra - ‘A clinic on wheels’ in Tamil Nadu

With the overwhelming response from Andhra Pradesh, the campaign ‘Breathefree Yatra – a clinic on wheels’ was initiated in TamilNadu from 1st to 9 June 2011 to raise awareness on asthma and provide free lung tests and doctor consultation. Equipped with diagnostic tools, educational materials and a team of counselors; the Breathefree Yatra travelled across eight cities offering free respiratory check-ups with the support of doctors in each of these locations viz., Chennai, Vellore, Salem, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Nagercoil.
Over 1333 people availed the free screening services in the Breathefree Yatra tour, of which 40% were diagnosed with asthma in the state. Of these many were diagnosed of asthma for the first time and many were convinced about inhalation therapy being the best and most effective treatment for asthma.
We would like to thank all the doctors who came forward to support the Breathefree Yatra by offering free consultation to patients and also addressing the press in each location. They are Dr. Prasanna Kumar Thomas & Dr. A. Balachandran in Chennai; Dr. D. J. Christopher from CMC Medical College in Vellore; Dr. J Ram from Fairlands Specialists Clinic & Dr R. Krishnaveni from AV Clinic, Mettur in Salem; Dr. Sundara Kumar from GKNM Hospital, Dr. Shaktivel from Kongunadu Hospital & Dr. Arul Mozhi in Coimbatore; Dr. Ganapathy Subramanian from ABC Hospital & Dr. Nagarajan from KMC Speciality Hospital in Trichy; Dr. Vivekanandan from Madurai City Hospital & Dr. Prabhakaran from Devadas Multispecialty Hospital in Madurai; Dr. Manimozhian in Tirunelveli; Dr. Bhagavathy Perumal & Dr. Mohamed Ismail in Nagercoil.
