World No Tobacco Day Kites Slogan Competition

 
This event was organized on May 29th, 2010 in Thrissur, Kerala to commemorate the World No Tobacco Day. This is another important initiative organized under the Breathe free Campaign to propagate the key message that ‘smoking is a predominant trigger for asthma

The event had a gathering of 35 asthmatics in the city, who appealed the smokers to quit smoking by flying anti-tobacco slogans on colourful kites. Prominent doctors from the city – Dr. Col.V.P Gopinathan, Head of Chest Dept, Jubilee Medical College, Dr. DineshaPrabhu, H.O.D (Pulmonology), Government Medical College, and Dr. Judo, Chest Physician, WestFort Hospital supported the cause by addressing a press conference, organized along with the event. Doctors highlighted the media that exposure to ‘passive’ tobacco smoking from parents during childhood and spouse during adulthood increases the risk of developing asthma by 69%.
