How to Use a Synchrobreathe Inhaler: Step-by-Step Guide
Follow this simple "Click-Click-Click" process to ensure you receive your full dose of medication every time.
Preparation:
- Shake the Inhaler: First, shake the inhaler well while keeping the mouthpiece cover closed.
- Click to Open: Open the mouthpiece cover by pulling it down. You will hear the first "click" as it opens fully.
Taking Your Dose:
- Breathe Out: Breathe out as much as you comfortably can, turning your head away from the inhaler.
- Position and Inhale: Place the mouthpiece in your mouth between your teeth and seal your lips around it. Begin to breathe in slowly and deeply through your mouth. As you inhale, the device will automatically release the dose of medicine, and you will hear the second "click."
- Continue Inhaling: Even after the click, continue to breathe in deeply to make sure the full dose reaches your lungs.
- Hold Your Breath: Remove the inhaler from your mouth and hold your breath for 10 seconds, or for as long as you comfortably can.
- Breathe Out: Breathe out slowly through your nose.
Finishing Up:
- Click to Close: After taking your puff, close the mouthpiece cover. You will hear the final "click," confirming the device is closed.
- Rinse Your Mouth: Always rinse your mouth thoroughly with water and spit it out after using the inhaler.
Points to remember
- Dose Counter: The Synchrobreathe inhaler has a dose counter that shows how many puffs are left. The color of the numbers will change from green to red when the last 40 puffs are remaining, indicating it's time to arrange for a new device. When the counter shows '0', the device should be discarded.
- Test Firing: It is important to test fire the inhaler before using it for the first time or if it hasn't been used for a week or more. To do this, open the mouthpiece cover and, holding the inhaler away from your face, press the dose-release button (the small notch at the back) to release two puffs into the air.
- Cleaning: Clean your Synchrobreathe inhaler once a week. Open the mouthpiece and wipe it with a clean, dry cloth or tissue. Do not wash the inhaler with water.
- Accidental Opening: If you accidentally open the mouthpiece cover, there will be no loss of medicine. The dose is only released when you inhale through it. Simply close the cover again.
