How to Use the Mini Zerostat Spacer: Step-by-Step Guide
Follow these simple instructions to ensure you get the full and correct dose of your medication.
Preparing the Device:
- Prepare the Inhaler: Remove the mouthpiece cap from your pMDI inhaler and shake it well.
- Insert the Inhaler: Insert the mouthpiece of the inhaler into the slot provided at the back of the Mini Zerostat Spacer.
Taking Your Dose:
- Breathe Out: Exhale completely, turning your head away from the spacer.
- Position the Spacer: Remove the cap from the spacer's mouthpiece, place the mouthpiece in your mouth between your teeth, and seal your lips firmly around it.
- Release the Dose: Press down on the inhaler canister once to release a puff of medication into the spacer chamber.
- Inhale Slowly: Immediately begin to breathe in slowly and deeply through your mouth.
- Hold Your Breath: Remove the spacer from your mouth and hold your breath for about 10 seconds, or for as long as you comfortably can, before breathing out normally.
Alternative Inhalation Method:
If taking one long, deep breath is difficult, you can keep your lips sealed around the mouthpiece and breathe normally for 3 to 5 breaths after releasing the dose.
- For a Second Dose: If your doctor has prescribed more than one puff, wait for one minute, shake your inhaler again, and then repeat steps 3-7.
Points to remember
- Rinse Your Mouth: After completing your dose(s), it is important to rinse your mouth with water and then spit it out. This helps prevent irritation and oral side effects.
- Cleaning Your Spacer: Clean your Mini Zerostat Spacer at least once a week. Soak the spacer in a mild soap solution for 15 minutes and stir it gently. Rinse it thoroughly with clean water, shake off any excess water, and allow it to air-dry completely in a vertical position.
- Device Replacement: It is recommended to replace your Mini Zerostat Spacer with a new one after 6 months of use to maintain its effectiveness and hygiene.
